Kosovo LDK Leader Abdixhiku Urged to Secure Equal Deal with Vetëvendosje, Analyst Says

Analyst Agon Maliqi said the re‑election of Lumir Abdixhiku as head of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) gives him a mandate to negotiate with the opposition movement Vetëvendosje (VV). He stressed that any coalition agreement must be based on principles, not merely a division of power, and must guarantee a balance of authority, protect democracy and preserve Kosovo’s strategic foreign‑policy orientation.

Maliqi warned that the LDK should not be subordinated in talks with VV and must achieve an “equal partnership”. He quoted: “The result imposes a consensus; the LDK must reach a substantive agreement, not just note the decisions and diktats of Prime Minister Albin Kurti, but a side that has its own voice and reaches a primary agreement on programmatic issues that also have differences.” He also noted that internal LDK elections showed no signs of party split and described the process as positive.
