Albin Kurti signals coalition willingness with LDK ahead of Kosovo constitutional session

Kosovo’s acting prime minister, Albin Kurti, said there is “will and readiness” for an agreement with the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) to form the country’s new institutions. The talks, which were paused after an internal LDK vote of confidence, are expected to resume in the week before the constitutional session of the Assembly scheduled for 6 August.

LDK deputy chairman Lutfi Haziri stated that the party would close all primary issues for 24 hours if Vetëvendosje (LVV) shows willingness. The three principles LDK has set for a possible deal are: a comprehensive agreement on all institutions (parliament, government, presidency) or none; a shared state agenda, sectoral policies and government programme; and a clear division of responsibilities.

Kurti’s LVV won 53 seats in the 7 June election and needs at least 61 votes to constitute a parliamentary majority and 80 deputies present to elect a new president. The negotiations aim to secure the necessary support to end the prolonged political and institutional crisis in Kosovo.
