Kosovo Liberation Army veterans recall wartime sacrifices

Former Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) members have shared emotional accounts regarding the sacrifices made during the conflict for Kosovo's freedom.

Ex-commander Shukri Buja honored the memory of three Nerodime Operational Zone leaders—Naim Beka, Agim Matoshi, and Avni Shehu. Buja reflected on his time fighting alongside Beka, describing him as a man of action and a dedicated organizer who served in various capacities, including special units and on the front lines. Following the war, Buja appointed Beka as a Battalion Commander in recognition of his extraordinary contributions.

KLA medic Time Kadrijaj also recounted the harrowing conditions faced by soldiers and medical staff. She described the scarcity of basic equipment, noting instances where blood was transfused directly between individuals and surgeries were performed with improvised tools. Kadrijaj highlighted the bravery of young soldiers who faced the front lines with determination and recalled the efforts of figures like Ramush Haradinaj in establishing improvised operating rooms to save lives under fire.
