Kosovo moves to restore 24‑hour on‑call pharmacy service nationwide
After more than two years without night‑time pharmacy service in Pristina, the director of health, Bujar Gashi, announced that 24‑hour on‑call pharmacies will be reinstated. The Kosovo Chamber of Pharmacists, represented by deputy chair Jehona Hakaj, is working with the Ministry of Health to amend Law 11/2015 and draft a nationwide on‑call schedule.
The amendment is expected to be finalized by mid‑August, with about a month needed for initial implementation. According to the Chamber, 97 % of pharmacists support the new schedule, and no formal requests from pharmacists have been received so far.
The planned service will allow pharmacies to remain open for patient care during nighttime hours, after which they will close, while some pharmacies already operate 24 hours without a specific regulatory framework.
