LDK faces internal crisis as members demand leadership change

Prominent members of Kosovo’s Democratic League (LDK) have called for internal elections and the resignation of party leader Lumir Abdixhiku, citing repeated electoral setbacks and a perceived lack of accountability. Former party officials, including Muhamet Hamiti, Fadil Hadergjonaj, Hykmete Bajrami and Agim Veliu, criticised the party’s performance since 2021, describing it as "stuck in third place" and urging a "deep reflection" and renewal of leadership.

The critics argue that Abdixhiku has taken credit for successes while avoiding responsibility for election losses, and that his recent handling of dissenting municipal leaders shows an authoritarian approach. They stress that internal elections are the only solution to restore confidence among members and voters and to reinvigorate the party’s traditional democratic‑nationalist values.

Calls for reform have intensified following recent internal party meetings where roughly 45 % of delegates supported Abdixhiku’s removal, yet he retained his position. The ongoing debate underscores growing tensions within LDK as it seeks to regain relevance in Kosovo’s political landscape.
