Kosovo’s constitutional deadline to convene the new Assembly – within 30 days of the election results certification – expires on 7 August 2026 at 23:59. The Constitutional Court ruled that the Assembly must be constituted within this period, but the constitutive session was interrupted after Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti asked for extra time to negotiate a presidential candidate. Opposition parties, including the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) and the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), condemned the delay and urged immediate constitution of the legislature, warning of a constitutional vacuum.

The United States Embassy in Pristina and the European Union delegation have called on Kosovo’s leaders to respect the court’s ruling and form institutions without further postponement, stressing the importance for the country’s stability and European integration. Several political figures, such as Alliance leader Ardian Gjini, have set conditions for joining a government, demanding that the president be Ramush Haradinaj. The impasse continues to dominate Kosovo’s domestic politics.
