Serbian President Vučić's Threats to Kosovo Prompt Diplomatic Reactions
Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić declared Kosovo to be part of Serbia and urged Serbian officers to be ready to protect the "holy land," echoing rhetoric from the 1990s. The statements were met with condemnation from Kosovo’s acting foreign minister Glauk Konjufca, who raised the issue with French delegate Benjamin Haddad, and from Albanian foreign minister Ferit Hoxha, who warned that nationalist rhetoric cannot attract the region. Serbian MP Shaip Kamberi criticised the Serbian government’s handling of war‑crime accusations in Kosovo and linked the rhetoric to upcoming elections. The ambassadors of the QUINT – Germany, France, the United States, the United Kingdom and Italy – offered no comment, while NATO also declined to comment on the matter.
