LDK leaders oppose Serbian elections in Kosovo

Lutfi Haziri, Vice President of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), has voiced strong opposition to Serbia holding elections within Kosovo territory. Haziri emphasized the need to continue the process of “dismantling the remaining structures of Serbian institutions.” Serbia is expected to hold elections on October 25, but the Kurti government has prohibited such elections in Kosovo since 2021. Additionally, election campaigning was recently halted in the northern part of the country.

Haziri expressed skepticism regarding progress in the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, identifying Serbia as the primary source of instability. He noted that Serbia’s foreign and domestic policies appear designed to prevent the resolution of open issues. He also pointed to the construction of military barracks near the border as a sign of continued tension.

In separate political developments, Jehona Lushaku-Sadriu, head of the LDK Parliamentary Group, addressed the failure of a joint proposal for Bekim Sejdiu as a consensus presidential candidate. The agreement between the LDK and Vetëvendosje (LVV) collapsed after six LDK deputies refused to support the candidacy. Despite this, LDK remained present during the election of President Justina Shiroka Pula, which was achieved through an agreement between LVV and PDK.
