Kosovo political dispute intensifies as Haradinaj attacks Kurti's trade and energy choices, allies praise progress

Former prime minister Ramush Haradinaj sharply criticised incumbent Albin Kurti, accusing his government of reversing a 100% import duty on Serbian goods, cancelling a 2017 ContourGlobal energy project and rejecting a U.S. gas deal, which he claims has increased Kosovo's dependence on Serbian trade and foreign energy. Haradinaj warned that “people are preparing protests against American gas” and questioned the direction of Kosovo’s economic policies.

British ambassador Jonathan Hargreaves and German ambassador Rainer Rudolph praised Kosovo’s rapid development since the 1999 NATO intervention. Hargreaves called the country’s recent history “extraordinary”, while Rudolph used a German expression that Kosovo’s “glass is four‑fifths full”, emphasizing the nation’s functioning democracy and progress.

Both sides framed the debate around Kosovo’s future integration with Western allies and its economic independence.
