Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti's Party Wins Election but Lacks Majority

Albin Kurti's Self‑Determination party secured roughly 43% of the vote in Kosovo's early parliamentary elections, a drop from the about 50% it obtained in December. The result leaves the party short of the 51% threshold needed to form a government on its own, forcing it to seek coalition partners. The opposition Democratic Party gained about 21% and the Democratic League about 18%, while voter turnout fell to around 35‑37%, down from roughly 45% in the previous vote.

Kurti called on all political forces to negotiate a governing agreement, emphasizing the need to overcome the ongoing political deadlock that has seen the parliament dissolved after failing to elect a president. The fragmented outcome prolongs Kosovo's institutional crisis and delays reforms tied to its EU accession path, with the European Commission urging the creation of strong institutions capable of implementing required reforms.
