Kosovo prosecutors focus on asset recovery and leadership changes

Kosovo State Prosecutor Zejnulla Gashi participated in a regional meeting focused on financial investigations, asset seizure, and corruption-related asset recovery. The event, organized by the Office of the State Prosecutor, UNDP, UNODC, and the Basel Institute on Governance, aimed to enhance cooperation and exchange expertise between participating countries, including Albania and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Gashi emphasized that successful combat against corruption and complex crimes requires more than criminal prosecution; it necessitates rigorous financial investigations and the final confiscation of illicitly gained assets to return them to the state and affected parties. The meeting included prosecutors and representatives from various legislative institutions and specialized agencies, such as Albania’s SPAK.

In separate institutional developments, the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council appointed Bahri Hyseni as Deputy State Prosecutor for a four-year term, following a proposal by Zejnulla Gashi. The Council also reviewed annual reports from the Appellate Prosecutor and the Special Prosecutor, and addressed personnel changes including retirements and resignations within the prosecutorial system.
