Kosovo protests for veteran release and police station clash raise security concerns

On 24 June, a protest took place outside the Lipjan court demanding the release of former KLA veteran and war‑invalid Bekim Meta, who was injured in a clash that left 11 people hurt and 15 arrested. Organisers said the attackers wore paramilitary uniforms and that Meta’s release was needed for justice.

Separately, an incident at the “Jugu” police station in Pristina involved two police officers who allegedly assaulted each other during a shift. The Kosovo Police Inspectorate has opened an investigation and recommended both officers be suspended pending further inquiries.
