Kosovo regulators halt crypto firms and construction site over safety concerns

The Central Market Supervision Inspectorate (IQMT) closed around ten cryptocurrency businesses in Kosovo this week as part of the operational plan to oversee the sector. The closures coincided with the launch of a licensing regime under the country's special crypto law, which mirrors the EU's MiCA regulation. Experts note that the law, enacted in 2024, needs updates in tax treatment and consumer protection to attract larger international operators.

Separately, the Central Labour Inspectorate (IQP) ordered an immediate stop to construction work at a site on Elez Berisha road in Fushë Kosovë after identifying serious safety violations, including missing protective barriers and unsecured scaffolding. Inspectors erected an official ban and warned of further legal action against entities that ignore occupational safety requirements.
