Kosovo trade deficit widens as imports exceed exports by sixfold

In September 2026, Kosovo's import value reached 643.4 million euros, representing a 6.1% increase compared to the same period in 2025. In contrast, the country's exports were valued at 109.4 million euros, a 27.5% increase from the previous year. This data from the Kosovo Agency of Statistics highlights a significant trade imbalance, with imports being six times higher than exports.

Key export sectors included basic metals and related articles (24.3%), mineral products (17.1%), and plastics, rubber, and related items (10.3%). Major export destinations within the EU were Germany, the Netherlands, and Bulgaria. On the import side, mineral products (19.8%), prepared foods and beverages (11.8%), and transport vehicles (11.2%) were primary drivers. Germany, Greece, and Italy were the leading sources of imports.
