Kosovo ruling Vetëvendosje party wins 53 seats in June parliamentary election

The ruling Vetëvendosje movement, led by prime minister‑in‑waiting Albin Kurti, emerged as the largest party in Kosovo's early parliamentary election held on 7 June, securing 53 seats with roughly 47 % of the vote. Kurti urged that “it is vital to have a constituted parliament, a full‑mandate government and a elected president as soon as possible,” and called for the certification of the results so that new institutions can be formed.

Former president Vjosa Osmani, after her term ended in April, ran on the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) list. She received about 92,000 votes, but only one candidate she brought in – Albena Reshitaj – secured a seat. Other former Vetëvendosje deputies on her list, such as Jeta Statovci and Haxhi Avdyli, fell short.

Kurti also highlighted the upcoming challenge of coalition talks with minority parties, noting that their support could increase bargaining power for ministerial posts. The formation of a government now depends on negotiations with these groups and the prompt certification of the election outcome.
