Kosovo's Median Age Projected to Reach 49 by 2060

The Agency of Statistics of Kosovo released a report projecting that the median age of the country’s population will rise to 49 years by 2060. The forecast, based on the 2024 population register, birth and death records and migration data, shows a gradual ageing and a decline in natural increase. Municipal profiles indicate that Pristina remains the most urbanised municipality while Dragash is the most rural.

Deputy Minister for Administration and Local Government, Agon Batusha, stressed that accurate statistics are essential for policy‑making at both central and local levels. International experts Eduardo Jongstra and Tomáš Kučera contributed analyses, highlighting the impacts of fertility, mortality, internal and international migration, and urbanisation on the demographic trends. The agency presented three development scenarios to guide planners, noting that the projections are intended as a guide rather than a definitive prediction.
