Kostas Bakoyannis criticizes Athens municipal safety and infrastructure

Former Athens Mayor and leader of the ‘Athina Ypsila’ faction, Kostas Bakoyannis, has raised urgent concerns regarding public safety and municipal management in Athens. In a detailed social media post addressing recent Municipal Council sessions, Bakoyannis highlighted critical issues across various neighborhoods, including Grava, Kypseli, Plaka, and Rizoupoli.

Key grievances include inadequate safety measures in schools, specifically citing a gas odor incident in Grava and the Marasleio school complex, where a student was seriously injured despite prior written warnings from parents. Bakoyannis demanded accountability and immediate action rather than delays or the shifting of responsibility.

Additionally, residents of Kypseli have proposed a memorandum of cooperation to ensure written commitments and clear implementation steps following meetings with relevant ministers. The former mayor also emphasized the need for clear timelines on local infrastructure projects and flood prevention works, urging the current administration to move from verbal assurances to tangible results.
