Kostas Karamanlis clarifies stance on Samaras and new political party
Former Greek Prime Minister Kostas Karamanlis has reportedly clarified his political intentions regarding upcoming elections and potential new political movements. According to reports, Karamanlis stated that he will not support a political party led by Antonis Samaras, noting that such a move would be inconsistent with his own history and family legacy.
Karamanlis is expected to maintain a stance of “silent discretion” leading up to the elections. While he has not expressed enthusiastic support for the current policies of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis or the New Democracy party, he has indicated that he does not intend to support Samaras's potential party. He also suggested that if he were to act against New Democracy, he would consider forming his own party rather than supporting a rival.
He has reportedly had no direct communication with Samaras for several months and does not plan to make joint public appearances during the pre-election period.
