Kostas Karamanlis signals political distance from Mitsotakis

Former Prime Minister Kostas Karamanlis has signaled a continued political distance from the current leadership of New Democracy. While Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis was in Thessaloniki presenting the government’s economic policy and outlook for 2030 at the Thessaloniki International Fair (DETh), Karamanlis chose to attend a book presentation in Xanthi.

During the event in Xanthi, where he provided a preface for Kostas Bliatskas’s book regarding football figures Mimi Domazos and Antoni Antoniadis, Karamanlis made remarks that were interpreted as a critique of current leadership. He referred to a historical football management decision from 1977 as ‘a narrow-minded and divisive administration,’ a comment viewed by observers as a potential jab at Mitsotakis’s governance.

This marks the second consecutive year that Karamanlis has declined to attend the Thessaloniki International Fair, further fueling discussions regarding internal party dynamics and the growing rift between the former and current Prime Ministers.
