Kostas Tsimikas captains Liverpool in 4-2 friendly win over Sunderland

Greek left‑back Kostas Tsimikas wore Liverpool’s captain’s armband for the first time in his career during a pre‑season friendly against Sunderland. He started the match, took over the armband after captain Joe Gomez was injured in the eighth minute, and led the side until the halftime substitution. Liverpool defeated Sunderland 4‑2 at Geodis Park in front of 24,897 spectators, with goals from Kiara Morrison, Sombo‑Slaï, Kieza and Koumas.

Tsimikas shared his feelings on Instagram, calling the moment “a memory that will stay forever” and describing the honor of captaining the club, a role previously held by legends such as Kenny Dalglish and Steven Gerrard.
