Kostas Zachariadis criticizes Kyriakos Mitsotakis over Athens tragedies

Kostas Zachariadis has launched a sharp critique against Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and the Maximos Mansion following the Prime Minister’s weekly Sunday review. Zachariadis accused the administration of being “out of place and out of time,” criticizing the lack of mention regarding two major local issues in Athens.

First, he highlighted the tragedy in Plaka, where a powerful explosion in a neoclassical building resulted in the deaths of six people. Second, he addressed the ongoing issues in the Kypseli neighborhood, where construction for the new Metro line has been linked to structural damage and subsidence in local buildings. The Mayor of Athens, Haris Doukas, has previously noted that neighboring buildings sustained serious damage, leading to calls for increased safety, transparency, and technical inspections regarding the metro works.
