Kostis Hadjidakis announces pension support and policy plans

Greek Vice President Kostis Hadjidakis announced that a permanent financial reinforcement for pensioners will be paid at the end of November. Speaking at the 20th-anniversary event of the Supreme General Confederation of Greek Retirees (ASGSE), Hadjidakis stated that the New Democracy party's upcoming election program will include detailed plans regarding pensions, demographics, and long-term care.

Hadjidakis highlighted several government initiatives implemented since 2019 to improve the position of retirees. These include the 2020 reform that increased replacement rates for those with over 30 years of insurance, benefiting 225,000 pensioners, and the cancellation of cuts to supplementary pensions for those earning over 1,300 euros, which increased the income of approximately 235,000 people. Additionally, he noted that in 2023, one of two special solidarity income contributions was abolished, affecting approximately one million retirees.
