Greece to reform presumptive income system for self-employed
Greek Vice President Kostis Hardjidakis has clarified that the government is not planning to abolish the presumptive income system for self-employed professionals. Instead, a new model is being developed to link the level of presumptive income to the degree of tax compliance and digital footprint of each professional.
The proposed changes, expected to be detailed at the International Thessaloniki Fair, aim to reward compliant taxpayers. By utilizing digital tools such as POS transactions, myDATA, and electronic invoicing, the tax administration can more accurately assess real economic activity. Professionals who demonstrate high transparency and consistent compliance could see their presumptive income burdens reduced or even eliminated.
In addition to tax reforms, the government is considering a reduction in tax advance payments to improve liquidity for small businesses. Hardjidakis also noted that positive developments are expected regarding electricity prices and general cost-of-living measures starting in September.
