During the Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF), Greek officials and political leaders discussed strategic infrastructure, economic diplomacy, and social policies.

Apostolos Tzitzikostas, EU Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism, highlighted the Aegean-Black Sea axis as a ‘mega project’ that will position Northern Greece as a strategic hub for Southeast Europe and the Balkans over the next 15 years. Government Vice President Kostis Hatzidakis addressed several economic measures, including the ‘Koumbara for the New Generation’ social fund to support families and a goal to reduce electricity prices by 30% over the next three years through renewable energy expansion. He also discussed the transformation of public assets via the Hellenic Development Fund to attract private sector expertise.

On the diplomatic front, Dimitris Skalkos noted the strengthening of economic ties with Japan, with Greek exports to the country rising by 42% in 2025. Meanwhile, Maria Karystianou, President of ‘Hope for Democracy’, announced that her party will present a comprehensive political program at the TIF focused on the rule of law and social welfare.
