Kostis Papaioannou to discuss the rise of far-right movements in Europe

Kostis Papaioannou, Director of the Center for the Study and Countering of the Far-Right, will participate in a public discussion titled ‘The Black Wave of the Far-Right’ at the Kypseli Municipal Market on October 6. The event will also feature Athens Mayor Haris Doukas.

In a radio interview, Papaioannou discussed the strengthening of far-right movements across Europe, citing a crisis of trust and representation in traditional political forces. He highlighted the recent electoral results in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany, noting that the AfD has achieved significant gains among various demographics, including the working class and professionals. He described the situation in Germany as a post-war precedent where a far-right party has gained substantial influence, suggesting that these votes represent more than just protest, but a shift in long-term political alignment.

Papaioannou emphasized the need for social initiatives and democratic political responses to counter the rise of far-right perceptions.
