Kota: 20-year-old NEET aspirant dies by suicide in Rajasthan

Khushbu Patel, a 20-year-old medical aspirant from Madhya Pradesh, died by suicide at her rented residence in the Landmark City area of Kota, Rajasthan. The incident occurred on Tuesday night while she was preparing for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET).

Patel was living in Kota with her younger sister, who was also a student preparing for the JEE. The death was discovered when the sister returned from coaching classes to find the apartment door locked from the inside. After seeking assistance from neighbors and security, the door was opened, and Patel was found unresponsive. She was subsequently declared dead at MBS Hospital.

Local police from the Kunhadi station are investigating the circumstances. While no suicide note has been recovered, reports suggest the student may have been distressed following a previous NEET-UG score of approximately 450 marks. This incident marks the eighth reported suicide involving a coaching student in Kota since January 2026, highlighting ongoing concerns regarding academic pressure and mental health support in the city's competitive education hub.
