Kota Ibushi updates health status following leg surgery
All Elite Wrestling star Kota Ibushi has provided a significant health update following a recent surgery to repair a broken femur sustained during a match against Josh Alexander in October 2025. While the procedure to replace the hardware in his leg with stronger components was successful, Ibushi revealed that the new plate must remain in his body permanently.
Ibushi noted that while he can now lead a normal life, medical advice suggests that returning to professional wrestling is ‘almost impossible’ because the physical stress of matches could cause the plate to break, potentially jeopardizing his ability to function in daily life. He also mentioned that he has been using medication typically prescribed to cancer patients to manage his condition.
Despite these medical concerns and a period of uncertainty regarding his motivation, Ibushi vowed to return to the ring, stating, ‘Even though a comeback seems hopeless, I will definitely return to the ring. I don’t know how many years it will take, but I will never give up.’ He also expressed a commitment to helping save or rebuild the Shinjuku FACE wrestling venue in Tokyo.
