Kotabaru Heritage Film Festival 2026 to be held in Yogyakarta

The Kotabaru Heritage Film Festival (KHFF) 2026 is scheduled to take place from September 17 to 19 in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Organized by the Yogyakarta City Culture Office, the festival will be held at Pasar Terban and the PDIN Building in Terban.

A highlight of this year's event is the ‘Becak Drive-In Cinema’ program, where dozens of electric-powered rickshaws (becak) will serve as seating for audiences to watch the film ‘Para Perasuk’ (Levitating) by Wregas Bhanuteja. The festival aims to revitalize heritage areas by using film as a strategic medium to connect younger generations with cultural history.

In addition to film screenings, the festival features workshops, talks, and musical performances, including appearances by Sawung Jabo & Sirkus Barock. Festival Director Siska Raharja noted that the event reflects a growing trend of filmmakers using local identity, language, and tradition to tell community-driven stories.
