Kotlin municipality faces new biogas plant proposals
Plans to construct biogas plants in the Kotlin municipality have resurfaced following new applications submitted to the local government office. A Warsaw-based company has applied for building conditions for two separate installations, each with an electrical capacity of 0.499 MW, located on the same plots previously subject to a withdrawn application.
The project has faced significant local opposition in areas such as Wola Książęca and Witaszyce. Residents have previously raised concerns regarding potential odors and the contamination of soil and groundwater, while also criticizing local authorities for a perceived lack of public consultation.
Paweł Wyremblewski, the mayor of Kotlin, has defended the investment, describing biogas plants as an inevitable future for agricultural municipalities. He highlighted several potential benefits for the community, including steady tax revenue, cheaper energy and heat for public buildings, job creation, and the ecological disposal of agricultural waste through the production of post-fermentation fertilizer.
