Kotor Democrats demand local involvement in Boka Kotorska decisions

Members of the Kotor branch of the Democrats political party have criticized the central government for failing to respect the interests of the Boka Kotorska region. The group, including municipal councilors Vuk Bojat, Radosav Tujković, and Milorad Čović, argues that local communities must have a voice in decisions affecting their future, especially as Montenegro approaches European Union membership.

The dispute centers on proposed amendments to the Law on the Sea Domain. The proposal, supported by six coastal municipalities and the Association of Municipalities of Montenegro, seeks significant decentralization. It aims to return management of the coastline to local municipalities by replacing the current Public Enterprise 'Morsko Dobro' with a regulatory agency.

Local Democrats have accused the national ruling coalition, specifically the New Serbian Democratic Party which oversees the Ministry of Urbanism and the current maritime enterprise, of obstructing discussions on this legislation. The group emphasized that transparency and citizen participation should be the essence of the EU negotiation process rather than mere rhetoric.
