KOTRA and KIGAM partner to secure critical mineral supply chains

KOTRA and the Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources (KIGAM) have signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen cooperation in the field of critical minerals. The partnership aims to enhance national resource security and support domestic companies in diversifying their supply chains amidst increasing geopolitical tensions and resource nationalism.

The collaboration will combine KOTRA’s global business network with KIGAM’s technical expertise in mineral exploration, evaluation, and development. Key areas of cooperation include sharing information on mineral production, exports, and investment trends, as well as monitoring policy changes and export controls in resource-rich countries.

Additionally, the two organizations plan to jointly identify overseas resource development projects, conduct research, host seminars, and pursue official development assistance (ODA) projects. This integrated approach is designed to help domestic industries—such as semiconductors, batteries, and defense—respond more effectively to supply chain disruptions.
