Kouros of Lentini to return to Sicilian museum

The Kouros of Lentini, a significant Greek marble sculpture dating to the first decade of the 5th century BC, is scheduled to return to the Regional Archaeological Museum of Lentini on September 13, 2026.

Constructed from Parian marble, the statue consists of the ‘Biscari head’ from the Prince Biscari collection and the ‘torso of Leontinoi.’ The two components were reassembled in 2018 following archeometric and petrographic investigations. Since its assembly, the artifact has been exhibited on rotation in Catania, Syracuse, and Athens.

Sicilian cultural heritage official Francesco Paolo Scarpinato noted that the statue’s return provides added value to the territory’s cultural offerings and identity. Agostino Messana, director of the Archaeological Park of Leontinoi and Megara, added that the return of the Kouros, whose elements were recovered in the local area, serves as a vital link to the region's Greek roots.
