Istanbul hospital fire prompts precautionary patient evacuations
A fire broke out on the roof of the Koşuyolu Yüksek İhtisas Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi in the Kartal district of Istanbul on October 10, 2026. The blaze originated in a ventilation shaft within the administrative services department and spread to the roof of an adjoining annex that was undergoing renovation.
Emergency responders, including fire departments, police, medical crews, and AFAD, were deployed to the scene. As a precautionary measure to avoid smoke inhalation risks, medical staff initiated the evacuation of patients. Approximately 40 individuals from the affected area were safely transferred to an adjoining hospital annex.
Authorities confirmed that the flames remained confined to the administrative structure and the unused annex, and did not reach active polyclinics, patient wards, or medical staff. No injuries, casualties, or property losses were reported as a direct result of the incident. Firefighting crews successfully contained the flames and transitioned to cooling operations to prevent reignition.
