Koxha Mehmet Bej Mosque restoration begins in Tabanoc
Restoration efforts have commenced for the Koxha Mehmet Bej Mosque in Tabanoc, near Kumanovo, North Macedonia. The mosque, which may date back to 1380, is considered one of the oldest in the country.
After approximately 150 years without investment, the site had fallen into significant disrepair, characterized by a damaged minaret and deteriorating structures. Following legal protection granted by the Ministry of Culture in 2008, authorities and the Muftini of Kumanovo have begun preliminary work, including clearing the mosque's courtyard to prepare for further restoration aimed at returning the monument to functional use.
