In the Kozan district of Adana, a 55-year-old man with a 45 percent hearing and speech impairment, Muhammed Sonbaş, was assaulted on September 2. Following the incident, Sonbaş's family noticed injuries to his face and eyes and sought medical attention, where a report was filed.

Security camera footage emerged showing 19-year-old C. D. approaching Sonbaş with shopping bags and subsequently assaulting him. Although the suspect was initially released after questioning, the new video evidence led to his re-detention and referral to the courthouse. The suspect was ultimately released under judicial control pending trial.

The suspect's sister, İ. D., defended her brother at the courthouse, claiming he acted to protect their family. She alleged that Sonbaş had been loitering near their home and making inappropriate gestures, such as winking and blowing kisses, before attempting to take photos or videos of them.
