Kozani pedestrianizes Makedonomachon street for urban testing event
The Makedonomachon commercial street in Kozani was temporarily closed to vehicle traffic on October 9, 2026, to host the ‘Rendevou sti Makedonomachon’ event. The initiative served as a practical test for urban redesign, focusing on the ‘15-minute city’ concept to reduce car dependency and enhance pedestrian accessibility.
The event brought together local residents, businesses, and first-year students from the University of Western Macedonia. Activities included percussion music from the Kozani Municipal Conservatory, a photography exhibition by ‘Paremvasi’, and interactive games. Local shops participated by offering special deals and treats to attendees.
Organized by the Municipality of Kozani, the University of Western Macedonia, the Kozani Commercial Association, CluBE, and ‘Paremvasi’, the project is part of the European UVAR4US initiative. The event also included a platform for citizens to submit proposals regarding public space design and urban mobility through CluBE.
