Kozani promotes active mobility through ‘Just Streets’ program

As part of the European ‘Just Streets’ program, community members and educators in Kozani are discussing the benefits of active mobility and sustainable transport for students.

Giannis Magklaras, President of the Parents and Guardians Association of the ‘Charisios Moukas’ Primary School, emphasizes that walking or cycling to school ensures physical integrity, promotes a healthy lifestyle, and fosters ecological awareness. He notes that while professional obligations often necessitate car use, choosing active transport for school runs helps reduce urban traffic.

Aikaterini Papakosta, Director of the 8th Primary School of Kozani, observes that students who walk or cycle arrive with higher energy levels and better concentration compared to those transported by car, who may carry the stress of morning traffic. She describes the commute as an ‘informal laboratory’ where children learn practical road safety, social skills, and autonomy through direct interaction with their neighborhood.
