Kozhikode hosts 68th annual Kerala School Sports Meet

The 68th annual Kerala School Sports Meet is currently taking place in Kozhikode, running from October 25 to October 31, 2026. The event, inaugurated by Chief Minister V D Satheesan at the NIT Calicut Ground, features approximately 20,000 athletes competing across roughly 40 sporting events.

A notable feature of this year's meet is the participation of a 26-member contingent of students from Kerala Board schools in the United Arab Emirates. These athletes represent institutions including Gulf Model School in Dubai, Model Private School in Abu Dhabi, and New Indian Model School in Sharjah and Dubai.

The event's inauguration drew attention due to a change in the ceremonial torch-lighting. While former track-and-field star P T Usha was originally scheduled to light the flame, Chief Minister Satheesan performed the ceremony instead, leading to local controversy regarding the last-minute program change.
