Kozhikode International Airport to use CER fund for local development

The Corporate Environmental Responsibility (CER) fund of Kozhikode International Airport at Karipur will be redirected to support developmental needs in the areas surrounding the airport. This decision was reached during a high-level meeting chaired by the district collector at the Malappuram Collectorate.

Key initiatives include the allocation of Rs 3.5 crore to implement scientific measures to prevent rainwater runoff and waterlogging in nearby residential areas and farmlands during the monsoon season. Additionally, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) is expected to issue a no-objection certificate to upgrade a road on the western side of the airport, specifically to remove a hazardous ‘S’ curve that has been a long-standing safety concern for residents.

In the health sector, the fund will be used to provide 10 dialysis machines to the local taluk hospital. The meeting also addressed local employment, deciding to prioritize residents for job opportunities at the airport by preparing a list of eligible local candidates. Furthermore, the district collector will review challenges faced by residents regarding the mandatory AAI no-objection certificates required for constructing buildings in the airport's vicinity.
