KP Sharma Oli rules out CPN-UML mergers and warns of disciplinary action
CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli has declared that the party will no longer pursue mergers or unity with other political groups, including the CPN-Maoist Centre, calling such discussions a ‘waste of time’. While noting that electoral alliances or issue-based cooperation remains possible, Oli stated the party will focus on its own organizational strength.
Addressing party members during a virtual meeting, Oli emphasized a strict new stance on internal discipline. He warned that any members who violate party policy, spread disorder, or make statements that favor opposition parties will face strict action. He characterized previous attempts to remove him from leadership under the guise of restructuring as ‘criminal activity’ and stated that while past indiscipline has been forgiven, no further leniency will be granted following the recent Central Committee meeting.
Oli also directed party leaders to move away from ‘tourist’ tendencies and focus on performance rather than seniority. He indicated that the party’s immediate priorities are restoring democracy and preparing for upcoming local-level elections.
