KP Sharma Oli to remain CPN-UML chair after restructuring dispute

KP Sharma Oli will remain the chair of the CPN-UML following a period of internal dispute regarding party restructuring. A 15-member task force, led by Vice Chair Ram Bahadur Thapa, reached an agreement to remove the proposal for Oli to step aside, though suggestions from various groups will be included in the final report presented to the Central Committee.

During the Central Committee meeting, tensions surfaced between Oli and leader Krishna Gopal Shrestha. Shrestha challenged Oli’s decision to conduct the meeting, arguing that the General Secretary should preside according to party procedure. The exchange became heated, with Oli instructing Shrestha to remain seated and eventually declaring the meeting closed before Shrestha could finish his remarks. Additionally, leader Karna Thapa requested a discussion on his 26-page dissent note, to which Oli suggested the document be sent via WhatsApp.
