KPK confirms Merah Putih Building smoke was not a fire
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has confirmed that no fire occurred at the Merah Putih Building in Jakarta. The smoke reported by the public was the result of an automatic fire fighting system being triggered.
KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo explained that the incident was caused by fogging activities being conducted in the building area. The dense smoke from the fogging was detected by the building's sensors, which automatically activated the fire fighting system in the basement, specifically in the Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) battery room. The system released suppression media to mitigate potential electrical sparks.
The situation was reported as safe and under control following rapid handling by the KPK General Bureau team and local firefighters. Officials conducted smoke extraction and inspections to ensure all areas remained secure.
