KPK investigates potential corruption in North Sumatra road projects
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is exploring the possibility of expanding its investigation into North Sumatra road construction projects to include the provincial government. This development follows court proceedings regarding budget shifts that mentioned North Sumatra Governor Bobby Nasution.
Acting Director of KPK Investigations, Achmad Taufik Husein, stated that while the current investigation focuses on projects under the National Road Implementation Agency (BBPJN) in North Sumatra, investigators are looking into potential links to regional government budgets. The distinction lies in the funding sources, as the BBPJN projects utilize the national APBN budget, whereas regional projects use the APBD budget.
During a corruption trial at the Medan District Court, the presiding judge requested that the KPK prosecutors summon Bobby Nasution and former Acting Regional Secretary Effendy Pohan to provide testimony. The inquiry concerns budget shifts related to two road projects in North Padang Lawas Regency, valued at approximately Rp165 billion.
In response to these developments, the student group GMPET-SU has urged the KPK to issue new investigation orders (sprindik) to ensure a comprehensive probe into both the road infrastructure cases and railway projects managed by the Directorate General of Railways (DJKA) in Medan.
