KPK prosecutors cite song lyrics in Customs and Excise corruption trial

During a trial at the Jakarta Corruption Court on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, prosecutors from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) used song lyrics to deliver their opening statement in a Rp7.6 billion gratification case. The defendant, Budiman Bayu Prasojo, is the former Head of the Excise Intelligence Section P2 at the Directorate General of Customs and Excise.

Prosecutor Muhammad Takdir Suhan referenced the song ‘Panggung Sandiwara’ by God Bless and ‘Hadapi dengan Senyuman’ by Dewa 19 to illustrate the discrepancy between an institution's public image and the actual conditions on the ground. Suhan noted that despite repeated corruption prevention socialization efforts by the KPK, such initiatives often seem to be ignored, as evidenced by this case.
