KPK investigates alleged trillion-rupiah excise corruption involving PT Djarum

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is investigating alleged corruption within the Directorate General of Customs and Excise that may have caused state losses totaling trillions of rupiah. The probe focuses on potential irregularities in the tobacco excise sector, specifically involving PT Djarum.

As part of the investigation, KPK investigators conducted a series of searches between October 28 and October 30, 2026. These raids targeted the PT Djarum headquarters, the Kudus Customs Office, the Semarang Customs Office, and the Central Java Regional Customs Office. Investigators seized various documents, electronic evidence, and an unspecified amount of cash.

The current investigation is an expansion of a February 2026 sting operation involving bribery and gratification related to imports. KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo stated that the agency is tracing the timeline of the alleged misconduct, which may extend back several years. PT Djarum has stated it is cooperating with the legal process and respects the law.
