BNPB corruption case: KPK names five suspects in disaster fund misuse
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has named five suspects in a corruption case involving the misuse of Ready-to-Use Funds (DSP) at the National Disaster Management Authority (BNPB). The investigation follows a sting operation on October 13, 2026, which resulted in the arrest of 15 individuals.
Among the suspects are Bima Setiawan, a former expert for the BNPB Head and brother of former BNPB Head Suharyanto, and Richard Erlangga, another former expert. Other suspects include Gabriel Purwaka Sigit, a procurement official, Gery Prasetiawan, a director at PT Trans Lintas Selaras, and Syifa Nrika Ghifarin, a private sector representative.
The alleged corruption involves procurement processes totaling approximately Rp 148 billion between 2024 and 2026, including the procurement of handy talkies (HT) for forest and land fire management. Investigators also suspect that funds were diverted to purchase Rp 30.98 billion in shares of PT MDLA through PT AVE. The KPK has seized evidence worth Rp 5.47 billion, including cash in USD and SGD, as well as gold.
KPK is currently coordinating with the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) due to the involvement of active personnel and has communicated the role of former BNPB Head Suharyanto to the TNI Military Police (Puspom TNI).
