Indonesia corruption probes: Customs bribery and regional budget scandals

Indonesian authorities are conducting multiple high-profile corruption investigations. The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) discovered approximately Rp2.8 billion in USD and SGD denominations hidden in the ceiling of a residence in Malang belonging to Gatot Heroe Hernanda, a suspect in a customs bribery case involving the Directorate General of Customs and Excise (DJBC).

KPK investigators are also examining intelligence regarding potential bribery attempts to influence the Ministry of Finance, though they noted the current primary focus remains on transactions involving PT Blueray Cargo.

In South Sulawesi, the regional police (Polda Sulsel) conducted a two-day reconstruction involving 101 scenes and 28 witnesses to investigate the 2017–2018 Parepare Health Office budget corruption case. The reconstruction revealed evidence of fund flows to various parties, potentially leading to new suspects.

Separately, the South Sulawesi High Prosecutor's Office has issued a third summons for former Acting Governor Bahtiar Baharuddin regarding a Rp60 billion pineapple seed procurement corruption case, following two previous absences.
