KPK to face pre-trial motion from former Deputy Minister Silmy Karim
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has announced its readiness to face a pre-trial motion filed by Silmy Karim, the former Deputy Minister of Immigration and Correctional Services. The legal challenge specifically contests the legality of asset seizures conducted during the investigation.
Silmy Karim is a suspect in an alleged extortion case involving the processing of residence permits for foreign nationals within the Ministry of Immigration and Correctional Services. The investigation follows a sting operation conducted in June 2026, which led to the naming of eight suspects.
KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo stated that the commission respects the legal rights of the suspect to test the formal aspects of the investigation through the pre-trial mechanism. However, he emphasized that all investigative stages, including seizures, have been carried out in accordance with applicable legal procedures and are supported by both formal and material legal bases.
