KPK transfers Riau aide case to prosecutors and appeals Abdul Wahid's sentence

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has moved forward with legal proceedings regarding a corruption and extortion case in Riau Province. On August 10, 2026, prosecutors transferred the case files and the suspect, Marjani (MJN)—an aide to former Riau Governor Abdul Wahid—to the Public Prosecutor's Office (JPU) following the completion of the investigation phase.

In a separate development, the KPK has submitted an appeal memorandum to the Riau High Court regarding the sentencing of Abdul Wahid, Muh Arief Setiawan, and Dani M Nursalam. The prosecution is challenging a previous ruling by the Pekanbaru Corruption Court that sentenced the three defendants to two years in prison.

The KPK argues that the sentences are insufficient, noting that the applicable anti-corruption laws carry a minimum prison term of four years. Furthermore, prosecutors highlighted inconsistencies in how legal articles were applied and noted that Abdul Wahid has not yet returned Rp1.45 billion in illicitly obtained funds, a factor they believe should have been considered an aggravating circumstance.
