KPN outage disrupts telephone services at multiple Dutch hospitals

Multiple hospitals across the Netherlands are experiencing telephone connectivity issues due to a technical outage at provider KPN. The disruption affects several major medical institutions, including Haaglanden MC in The Hague, UMC Utrecht, Erasmus MC in Rotterdam, UMCG in Groningen, Radboudumc in Nijmegen, and Maastricht UMC+.

KPN has described the incident as a ‘local technical failure in one of our network locations’ that has impacted several business customers. While the outage affects professional lines, KPN stated that individual consumers are not experiencing issues.

Medical facilities have emphasized that they remain open and operational. Some hospitals, such as Maastricht UMC+, have reported limited accessibility for emergency departments via fixed lines, though they remain available for urgent medical needs. Various institutions have implemented temporary emergency phone numbers or mobile lines to maintain communication. Hospitals have advised patients with non-urgent inquiries or appointment changes to call back later in the week to avoid overwhelming emergency channels.
